In this summer school on trauma surgery, jointly organised by Leiden University, University of Edinburgh, Karolinska Institutet Stockholm, Semmelweis University Budapest and Universität Innsbruck, participants and faculty will discuss and discover the current progression of scientific research within the field of trauma surgery. Lectures on fundamentals, recent trials and scientific research as well as workshops in ATLS, joint fixation and other surgical skills form the core of this course. The final product of each participant will be a proposal for further scientific research, based on what has been discussed throughout the course and devised using the newly acquired skills.

The course covers 3 main themes, Pre-hospital Care, Visceral Trauma and Orthopedic Trauma. Moreover, the course places strong emphasis on skills in scientific research. During the 4-day course, participants will be accommodated in a hotel very near to the hospital, or will organise their own accomodation. The participation fee covers all meals, hotel costs (15-19 July), materials, social program and course costs.
Requirements & Application
The organisation wishes to invite a diverse group of participants, i.e. both talented younger, and more experienced students. All participants should be Master's (if you finished your BSc in '17/'18, you are eligible) or PhDs students in Medicine or Biomedical Science, either attending the partner institutes for the ESSETS 2018 or any other institute. Up to 40 students will be admitted to the course after application through providing the following:
1. A motivation letter in English of under 500 words, including a concise idea for new scientific research;
2. A comprehensive (preferably 1 page) CV and;
3. Any certificate(s) you may posess proving sufficiency in the English language.
